Friday Coronoavirus Update

There are 210,787 cumulative cases of coronavirus in Virginia with 13,815 total hospitalizations and 3,896 total deaths.

A program that provided extended unemployment benefits to out-of-work Virginians will end Saturday.

The Virginia Employment Commission on Wednesday announced the end of the state’s Extended Benefits program. The federally-funded program provided up to an addition 13 weeks of help to people who had already exhausted their regular benefits and any Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits.

It is ending because employment in Virginia has improved and no longer meets a federal threshold for the program to be funded. It could restart in the future.

The producers of one of the nation’s largest gun shows have canceled the event after losing a legal challenge to newly imposed pandemic restrictions in Virginia.

The Nation’s Gun Show is held several times a year at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) outside Washington. A three-day show expected to draw thousands had been scheduled to start Friday.

The show filed for an emergency injunction this week in Fairfax County Circuit Court after it was told that tightened restrictions imposed last week by Gov. Ralph Northam would limit the event to 250 people.
