Coronavirus Update For Wednesday

There are now 32,145 cases of COVID-19 in Virginia with 3,904 hospitalizations and 1.041 deaths. There are eight cases in Alleghany County with two deaths, according to county health department numbers. Three cases are now confirmed in Covington. Botetourt County is reporting 31 cases and three deaths.

A child in northern Virginia is the first confirmed case in the state of a pediatric inflammatory illness associated with the new coronavirus. Health department officials on Tuesday confirmed the case of Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children in the Fairfax Health District, which includes Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church. Officials say the child was hospitalized May 5 and has since been discharged and is recovering at home. No other details, including the age of the child, were provided.

The West Virginia prison system had its first inmate test positive for the coronavirus, Gov. Jim Justice announced Tuesday.
The 62-year-old Huttonsville Correctional Center inmate’s case was announced a day after a guard at the facility tested positive, though Justice said the cases are not believed to be connected.
