Senate-Passed Measure Would Boost Protections For Wilderness Areas

A total of 5,600 acres within two wilderness areas in Bath County would be protected through the Virginia Wilderness Additions Act, passed this week by the US Senate. It adds areas within the George Washington National Forest in Bath County: the Rough Mountain Wilderness area and the Rich Hole Wilderness area. Those additions had been recommended by the U.S. Forest Service in 2014 and endorsed by members of the GW National Forest Stakeholder Collaborative.
