Robbery, Chase Lead To Arrest, Charges

A Tuesday afternoon robbery and chase leads to charges. Today at 3:45 p.m. two individuals were stopped off exit 180 in Rockbridge County, when a second individual pulled up wearing a mask and presented a handgun. The suspect took the individual’s wallet and two cell phones and fled the scene in a white Jeep Cherokee. The victim followed the suspect north on Interstate 81 to Route 60; where the suspect exited the Interstate traveling east on Route 60. Virginia State Police units located the suspect vehicle on Route 60 where the units attempted a traffic stop. The suspect vehicle fled from the State Police units and turned west on Route 60. The suspect fired his weapon multiple times at the pursuing troopers. The suspect vehicle was disabled by spike strips on Nelson Street at Estill Street in the town of Lexington. After a short stand-off with officers, the suspect was taken into custody at 4:14 p.m. without incident. Dustin Wayne Caudill, 32, of Statesville, NC has been charged with Attempted Capital Murder and Robbery, more charges are pending.
