Results of the 2018 Virginia Farm to School Survey shows that farmers are interested in selling foods to schools, and those schools are interested in buying from them. The 2018 report found that 75 percent of Virginia school divisions are actively participating in Farm to School programs, an increase from 64 percent in 2016. The total dollars spent on locally sourced foods in Virginia during the 2016-2017 school year was $15.4 million, an increase from $7.78 million during the 2013-2014 school year. Virginia was one of the first states to establish a Farm to School task force in 2007.
