WV Gov’s Car Rear Ended By Vehicle

Police say a vehicle carrying West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice and first lady Cathy Justice was struck from behind at an intersection by a man suspected of being under the influence of marijuana.

The governor’s office says in a statement that the governor and first lady are being monitored for injuries but were not taken for medical treatment after Saturday’s crash in Beckley.

The statement says the Justices were stopped at a red light near a cemetery where they had just placed flowers on their parents’ graves when the crash occurred. The governor’s State Police security was alongside him and reacted to stabilize the situation until Beckley police could arrive to investigate.

Beckley police said in a statement that 20-year-old Joshua Lucas was charged with driving under the influence of drugs and failure to maintain control.
