Chief Chris Perkins concluded his last day with the Roanoke Police Department where he began: the streets of District 4. Perkins, 46, joined his street cops at the morning line-up, where he received his assignment, and loaded up his police cruiser to set out for an area in northwest Roanoke, yesterday morning. Perkins joined the police department in 1992 as an officer, then rose through the ranks. He became chief in 2010. In December, he announced he planned to retire, citing personal needs.
