$45K For Community Development Projects In Alleghany Highlands

Governor Ralph Northam was in Covington Wednesday afternoon, along with representatives from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, to announce that the Alleghany Highlands Economic Development will receive a grant of $45,000 to create new business in the Alleghany Highlands, to take up empty store fronts and create jobs. The Virginia Community Business Launch Program, which is taking place in rural areas of the Commonwealth, has created 148 new jobs so far in Virginia, and 357 entrepreneurs have participated in the program. The cities of Danville, Galax, and Suffolk will also each receieve $45,000 in grants. Members of Covington City Council, Clifton Forge Town Council, and the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors were on hand to receive the check. Governor Northam stated in his comments that Virginia is now at a 3.2 percent unemployment rate.
